Ruben Maldonado

Ruben Z. Maldonado “Don Ruben” passed away on Friday, August 23rd , 2024 at the age of 78. Ruben fought a courageous battle for the last three years against an illness but he had faith in his heart and put his trust in God, which never allowed him to give up. Ruben loved life and lived it up to the fullest. Although a long time resident of Joliet, Illinois, Ruben was born on November 17, 1945 to his parents, Ma. Dolores and Pedro Maldonado in Urireo, Guanajuato, Mexico. Ruben would later move to the United States when he was 17 years old.Ruben started working at a very early age. Showing to have discipline and a strong work ethic. He drove tractors in farmlands and seeded crops. He quickly advanced exploring other options. The next chapter of his journey would be started when he met the love of his life, Luz “Lucy” Gutierrez who would later become his wife when they married on December 2nd , 1970. Ruben was also was a dedicated worker for Local 681and retired after 37 years. Ruben loved being outdoors in his garden and playing his harmonicas for all his grandchildren. He also enjoyed a good game of poker, dominos and teaching his grandchildren all his tricks and how to win. Ruben will be deeply missed by everyone blessed to have known him. “You may be gone but never forgotten. We will always carry your memory in our hearts.” Preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Ma. Dolores Maldonado. Two sisters Gloria and Linda. Two brothers Antonio and Salvador. Survived by his loving wife of 53 years Luz Maldonado (Lucy). Loving father to Jose (Isabel) Maldonado, Raul (Angelica Martinez) Maldonado, Maribel Maldonado-Mendez. His grandchildren Alecxis, Ezequiel, Jazmine, Amber, Angelo, Aryahna, Jenny, Ayleen. Five great grandchildren Liliana, Eevee, Aria, Silas, Liam. Also survived by his sisters Alicia, Celia, Sylvia, Luz. Two brothers Francisco and Jose. Several nephews, nieces, family members and friends. A visitation will be held on August 29, 2024, 5:00 PM – 8:00PM & Also on August 30, 2024, 8:30 AM -9:30 AM at Delgado Funeral Chapel, 400 Landau Ave. Joliet, Illinois 60432. A Funeral Mass for Ruben will also be held on August 30, 2024, 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 416 N. Chicago St. 60432.
