James Fredrick Spenard

"Life Reflections" James Fredrick Spenard, Age 85 went home to be with the Lord on Saturday April 9, 2011. Born and raised in Kankakee, IL on December 11, 1925. A Joliet resident since 1962. Preceded in death by his parents Edward Fredrick and Lillian Virginia (nee Chartier) Spenard. Also two sisters and five brothers. James is survived by his loving wife of 57 years the Reverend Wanda Marsalee (nee Corcoran), four children; Kenneth C. (Donna), Lillian May (Timothy)Powers, Linda J. (Tony) Cooper, La Rhonda G. (Chris) Reese. Eight (8) Grandchildren: Robert J. Spenard, Stephanie Spenard, Jeaunina N. Rodriguez, Tammy M. Wright, Charity Faith Benegas, Tony J. Cooper Jr., Stacey Romeo (nee Cooper) and Chris "CJ" M. Reese Jr., fifteen Great Grandchildren. An older brother Ralph Spenard of Bradley, IL also numerous nieces and nephews. James was a decorated Army Veteran (Asiatic Pacific Campain, Good Conduct and World War II Victory Medals). Who served as a cook during the War. He made a living as a "Master Baker" and started the bakery business at 12 years old. Working for Ned Grabavoy’s "Southern Fried Bakeries" and various bakeries within the Chicagoland area. When meeting his wife over 57 years ago he ask her if he could carry her cake home for her. Then there’s was no Jim without Wanda and no Wanda without Jim. He Retired in 1987. James always supported his wife in the ministry. he backed her with everything he had. Together they had about 5 different store front buildings for which he did the repairs and maintenance. Rev Sam Perry gave James and Reverend Wanda the current church building on Fox St. What a blessing that was to their ministry. James has over come 12 surgeries, 7 of them were major. He had faith in the lord and was a man of God. James’s hobby was Working. Other favorites in life: Fried Chicken, the movie - Outlaw Josey Wales, book - the Bible, gospel song - Redeemed, color – orchard, dessert - coconut cream pie, the game Monopol, Bible verse - Zechariah 4:6 and family member: Every born again believer in the body of Christ. Achnowledgements The family cannot begin to acknowledge the countless expressions of love, sympathy and support during this difficult time. They especially acknowledge the staff of Edward Hines, Jr. Veteran Hospital for their care and support for James. Also they appreciate your prayers, time, gifts and love during our time of sorrow.
