Ciriaco Diaz

August 8, 1931 - January 17, 2020

Ciriaco Diaz passed away at the age of 88 surrounded by his loving family on Friday, January 17, 2020. He valiantly battled several illnesses, but had faith in God and was ready when he called. Ciriaco was born on August 8, 1931 in Paracho, Michoacán, Mexico. He came to Joliet, Illinois in 1955 as a welder and eventually transitioned to become a machine operator in the steel mill industry. He remained at this position until his retirement after 31 years in the industry. In 1956, he married Socorro Urrutia-Briviesca and they enjoyed 45 years together until she passed in 2002. He later remarried Alma Kublickiene in 2006. He was a kind and generous man who was passionate about his faith in God and his Mexican futbol team Las Chivas. Ciriaco will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Many knew him for his sense of humor and compassionate spirit. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Steel Union in Joliet, Illinois. He is preceded in death by his father Marciano, his mother Josefa, his wife Socorro, and his sons Daniel Diaz and Joe Ramos Sanchez. He is survived by his loving wife Alma Juze Diaz along with his three adoring children; Guadalupe (Estevan) Diaz, Cecilia (Christina) Diaz, and Pedro (Patricia) Sanchez; eight grandchildren, Socorro Meza-Shelby (Vince), Vanessa Ramos Sanchez, Robert Meza, Pedro Sanchez Jr., Emiliano Sanchez, Alena Sanchez, Isabel Sanchez and Julian Sanchez; five great-grandchildren, Crystal Meza, Williams Meza, Nicolas Meza, Quinten Shelby, and Angelo Shelby; two sisters, Celia Onofre and Consuelo Diaz; one brother Cruz Diaz; and many loving nieces, nephews, and relatives. The wake will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Delgado Funeral Chapel on 400 Landau St., Joliet, IL 60432, from 5:00-8:00 PM. The mass will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2020at St Bernard’s Church, 1301 Sterling St. Joliet, IL 60632 at 10:00 AM.
