Rigoberto "Rigo" Vargas

Rigoberto Vargas, passed away peacefully with family by his side on October 7, 2024 after a gallant battle against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Rigoberto affectionately known as “Rigo” or “Pa” was born on May 19, 1948 to his parents Cresencio Vargas Serrano and Arcelia Vargas. He was born and raised on a ranch in El Tulillo, Jalisco, Mexico for eighteen years alongside eleven other siblings. At the age of 18, he moved to Joliet, Illinois to work alongside his father at the Prairie State Mill. From there, Rigoberto remained a lifelong resident where he met his beloved wife, Guadalupe. Together, they raised three beautiful children. Rigo loved spending time with his family and always loved engaging in conversations. He loved his family cookouts, listening to his regional Mexican music, and tending to his vegetable garden. He enjoyed the beauties of life in every moment. Whether it was him sitting down at his porch or taking a walk to visit his grandchildren. He loved life. In his words, “You have to be happy everyday. To wake up with life” His loved ones will forever honor his legacy by doing just that. Rigoberto is preceded in death by his father: Cresencio Vargas Serrano and two brothers, Hernando Vargas and Juvenal in infancy. Also preceded by his father in-law Eligio B. Ramirez and mother in-law Francies Ramierz. Survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Guadalupe (née Ramirez) Vargas. Devoted Pa to Grasia Gonzalez, Olivia (Hector Melero) and Cresencio (Nicolette) Vargas. Pa will be deeply missed by his grandchildren and great-granddaughter: Alberto Daniel Gonzalez, Eliana Melero, Alexander Gonzalez, Sofia Gonzalez, Emilio Melero, Mark Marschner, Brenden Marschner, Bianca Marschner, Kaden Cresencio Vargas and Seri Gonzalez. Survived by his loving mother, Arcelia Vargas (née Madrigal) and 9 sisters and 1 brother. Ernestina (Marcos) Cuevas, Martha Vargas (Francisco Ramirez), Antonia (Manuel) Zuniga, Isaura (Gonzalo) Del Toro, Ofelia (Federico) Fajardo, Arcelia (Jose) Robles, Maria Elena (Jesus) Valencia, Hortencia (Santiago) Moreno, Gildardo (Elsa) Vargas, Rosalva (Ramon) Del Toro and numerous nieces, nephews and numerous other family members and friends.
