Luis E. Hernandez

Luis Ernesto Hernandez February 26, 1950 – July 16, 2025 Luis Ernesto Hernandez, age 75, peacefully passed away alongside his loving children, after a very brief battle with lung and brain cancer. Luis was welcomed home by his beautiful wife, the late Maria “Leticia” and his daughter Juanita. Luis affectionately known as “Neto” or “Louie” was born on February 26, 1950, in Manuel Doblado, Guanajuato Mexico to the late Salvador Hernandez-Hernandez and the late Josefina Rodriguez-Hernandez. He grew up in Mexico with his siblings and at the age of 20, moved to the Joliet area to be with his family. In the same year, he met his beloved wife, Leticia. Together they raised their beautiful family in the Lockport area since 1983. A great provider to his family, Luis worked as a warehouse manager for a total of 47 years before retiring. Many called on Luis to translate for management and could always depend on him to get projects completed. Luis took pride in his hard work. Luis enjoyed watching the news beginning at 4:05am every morning, to keep up with everything going on here in the states and back home in Mexico. He loved watching WWE with his children and enjoyed blessing his neighbors with the fresh vegetables of the large garden in his back yard. Whenever Luis heard a song that reminded him of his love for his beautiful wife, he’d stop to serenade and dance with Leticia. Luis and Leticia raised five children in the Lockport area. Devoted father to Luis S (Judith), Maria and (Mark) Reyes, the late Juanita (nee Johnson), Esmeralda (nee Holman), and Antoino (fiancé Malta). Luis has many loving grandchildren; Tamaria and Tristan: via Luis S; Ryder and Emberly: via Maria; Javier, Joshua and Iyanah: via Juanita; Lonnie Jr, Jasmine, Giovonni and Lorenzo: via Esmeralda; and godchildren Dylan, Joshua and Milo and many beautiful great grandchildren. We will miss our father dearly, but know that the love, legacy and memories of Luis and Maria Leticia will carry on with his children, grandchildren and everyone he knew during his lifetime. His passing is not with sorrow but with joy in remembering, the words of the Apostle Paul in Phillipians 1:21 ~ “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain”. The family would like to thank Lightways Hospice for their selfless acts of service during our fathers’ last days and the comforting of our family during this season.
